Planning and scheduling
Time is money—cost and schedule are inextricably linked. Our planners and schedulers
develop detailed timelines that incorporate all project activities, from engineering through to
start-up. Deliverables are scrutinized for potential delays that can drive up projects costs.
Plans are made to protect the project schedule whenever necessary.
- Developing a level 1 schedule which is an executive summary of the overall schedule. It is
a plan on a page or a milestone list. and is sometimes called the project master schedule.
Such Schedule are developed using Primavera (P6) and Microsoft Project (MS Project).
- The Level 1 Schedule is used for Communication, summarizing the schedule in documents
where only a snapshot is required, conversations about project priority to assess the project
against other projects, project assessment.
- Developing a level 2 schedule which is a management summary of the next level down
detail. Level 2 Schedule is used for Management reporting, project management activity.
- Developing the level 3 schedule which is a summary of activities from the level 4
schedule – each project schedule level builds on the next. It covers the whole project and
doesn’t go into the task level detail but provides enough of a breakdown for clients to see
what is happening at every step.
- Level 3 Schedule is used for Input to monthly reporting, tender documents, creating a schedule
framework for sub-contractors, establishing the critical path, consolidating level 4 schedules
for project control.
- Developing the level 4 schedule which is a working document that sets out the tasks to be
done. This is where the work of delivering the project really happens and it’s at this level that
you can manage the day-to-day activity for individual contributors. These documents are
updated frequently and used for resource allocation and progress tracking.
The Level 4 Schedule is used for Daily project management, detailed task tracking.
Estimating
As a project's scope is developed during the front-end planning phases, capital costs are
estimated using best-practice techniques and methods. Throughout the project, estimators are
called in to help identify cost trends. Their analyses can identify significant savings
opportunities when evaluating contractors' requests for extra work.
